2008 Beijing Olympic Games

While it’s not as important as the World Cup Football, the Olympic Games are the bomb! They start this Friday. Bring it! With no TV, I’ll be following the Games online. Here is the ABC website. It’s interesting to compare web design from the 2004 and 2000 games.

Above is a pic (click it for full glory) of fireworks exploding over the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, during an opening ceremony rehearsal on August 2, 2008. Looking good. (taken from here)

What’s your fav event?

  1. Sailing. Not that it’ll be televised unless we look likely to win – and even then it’ll just be ‘highlights’. The final women’s 470 race at the 2000 games was one of the most exciting sports events I’ve ever watched.

Hope they got rid of that algae! Although, even then … one of the 470 sailors swallowed a mouthful of water at the test event and got so sick that she lost 20% of her body weight (she only weighs 50kg!). From one mouthful of water! Praise God for the clean waters we enjoy here!

  2. hey michelle – that’s nuts with the water quality!! mind you – i’d be happy to lose 20% of my body weight…

rodeo clown – bah humbug! what don’t you like? the hype? sport in general? the opening and closing ceremony? the stupid questions from commentators to athletes who have just won a gold medal??

my fav sport is obviously the soccer.
but i like the handball – it was very cool live in sydney.
i really like the ahtletics events – but probably like the swimming marginally better because we have a better chance of dominating in the pool than on land.

That pretty much covers it :)

  4. Would have to be the swimming, because we’re good at it.

And the Water Cube looks awesome. Why couldn’t we have got some fine looking stadiums out of the Sydney Olympics. The Water Cube is designed by Australians!

Love the look of the Bird Nest Stadium.

  5. The event I am looking forward to most will be the shortest event of the Olympics: Mens 100m Sprint Final… over in 10 seconds!

  6. hey reimer – thanks for the heads up on the water cube!! it looks pretty good. australian stadiums are nice – but hardly spectacular!

joelc – good to hear from you again.

    andrew – rock on.
