Re:Jesus Festival 08

The Re:Jesus Festival 08 has just begun at Sydney University. The 2 week festival is run by the Evangelical Union with a solid line up of events, speakers and musicians.

They are effectively using different media including: chalking; posters; t-shirts; video; web; and word of mouth, to talk about Jesus on campus. Pray for it. If you’re in the area, go to it  + take your friends. Check out the vids below:

Jesus Life Culture Design #10

Big weekend in sport: Usain Bolt of Jamaica smashes the world record in 100m Olympic sprint final; Grant Hackett came so close; Michael Phelps becomes the greatest Olympic Athlete of all-time; Stephanie Rice proves she’s a better swimmer than her ex-boyfriend; the A-League and English Premier League kick off; and DAVE MIERS scores his 3rd goal of the season in EV’s 4-2 victory over Bayside.

Remember, don’t worship sport. (ps – this blog just hit 50,000 hits)

Cup Rocking

Walking past a trendy urban store in Chatswood today, I noticed something of a graffiti revolution in the form of CUPROCKING. Heard of it? Here’s a definition: “Cuprocking is the brain child of Sydney based artist Andy Uprock. By mapping out large areas of cyclone fencing and sticking plastic cups into the existing diamond shaped holes, Andy transforms streets and public areas into floating walk-by galleries. Andy typically uses around 2,500 individual cups for each piece and recycles them between each project.”

I was immediately grabbed by the colour and simplicity of the sample in the shop. I like it. This form of art could easily be used in creating a (relatively) cheap set/stage design or adding some colour to a youth room at your church. Check out Andy’s gallery and have a go at (virtual) cup rocking.

What do you think… Good, bad or ugly art?

Death By Love: Letters from the Cross

Death By Love will certainly make it onto my Cross of Jesus reading list. It’s a new book coming out from Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears. It is a book of letters to real people with real issues explaining the implications of Jesus’ work on the cross. Watch the video below. Death By Love Website. Chapter Excerpt (PDF). Publisher. psMark Driscoll will be preaching on the Central Coast in less than 2 weeks time. Not many tickets left (90% have been sold). (h/t TheResurgence)

Any path will do?

I’m puzzled by this sign that I saw outside a church today: Any path will do if you know where you are going?”. I’m not sure how to read it. Is it saying you can get to heaven/God by any path: Jesus; Muhammad; Buddha; Krishna; Rael? Or: it doesn’t matter where life takes you now if you know you are going to heaven? Or maybe it’s not spiritual at all: Choose whichever footpath you want, because many lead to the coffee-shop or RTA or whatever?

I pray that this church won’t ignore the truth revealed in the words of Jesus and the Spirit-Inspired words of Peter: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:16) + “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
