Sam Had A Very Shiny Nose

It’s been a couple of months since I gave Sam some love on the blog. Sam, one day you will google your name and find this picture. I’m sorry… it was your mum’s idea!!

Merry Christmas from Team Miers. We hope you have a great day rejoicing in Jesus our Saviour-God. Here’s some gear to look forward to after Christmas on DMDC:

  • More reflections from Vanuatu
  • Best and Worst of 2009
  • Brilliant guest posts from Row on the Twilight books

Would love your help in raising cash to provide a whole community with clean drinking water.

You Don’t Need To Do Miracles To Be A Saint

In the Bible, the word ‘saint’ is given to all who believe in Jesus. It’s not about what you do, it’s about having your trust in Jesus. Glenn Davies has written a great article on it.

Here’s a snippet:

Put simply, anyone whose sins have been forgiven by God, through faith in Jesus Christ, is a saint. Through God’s Holy Spirit, faith in Jesus makes us whole, indeed “holy”. It is not the achievements of a person’s life, but rather the gift of God through Christ, that makes us saints. Anyone looking at the letters of the Saint Paul can see how he writes to ordinary Christians as “saints”. It is not some rarefied title, but the humbling appellation that reminds us we belong to God and in his sight we are “holy”.

The second problem with the Roman Catholic Church’s process of canonisation is that it obscures the importance of God’s description of his people and replaces it with a human analysis of miracle working. Who can prove that the reported miracles were actually the work of Mary MacKillop? Did the persons healed pray to only Mary or did they not also pray to God? Even if they prayed to Mary MacKillop, what evidence is there that it was Mary MacKillop’s intercession that healed them? Furthermore, what evidence is there in the Bible that the departed saints (I use the term advisedly) pray for us?

Breaking News: Zoolander 2 Pre-release

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson weren’t required for the follow up to the 2001 classic comedy, Zoolander. Instead they chose to cast Drew, Mal and me in the sequel. The setting? The streets of Sydney. Here are some candid shots taken during filming:

Okay. Maybe not a Zoolander sequel. But Drew and Mal are really, really ridiculously good looking! It’s been a while since the 3 of us have hung out, so it was good to get the band back together. We had a killer night eating, drinking, walking, posing, laughing, praying, driving, encouraging, climbing, rapping, joking and reminiscing.

DMDC is raising $1541 to provide clean water for children

I’ve recently been challenged in 2 ways: 1) At EV Church, we have just completed a series on James. In James, real faith is shown in action. 2) At Willoughby Church, over Christmas, we are raising money to buy water wells in Cambodia for $1500.

can you help?

I figured that $1500 isn’t that much! Over the last couple of years, the readership of davemiers.com has steadily increased such that, with your help it is an achievable target. Let’s do it! I’m looking for 49 people to help… (DONATE NOW)

  • 1 person @ $200
  • 3 people @ $100 each
  • 10 people @ $50 each
  • 15 people @ $25 each
  • 20 people @ $10 each

Are you one of those 49 people? DONATE NOW!

This fund-raising is done in partnership with Compassion Australia.

For many children, there’s water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink! There are many diseases affecting children that could be easily prevented by providing them with access to clean water. This gift can help give the gift of life to hundreds of children by providing clean water through purification systems, rain water tanks and other water harvesting systems.

DONATE NOW. Is it too ambitious to do it by Christmas??? Help spread the word…
