“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:1-5)

Cut a branch from a vine and it will stop bearing fruit. The key to bearing fruit in the Christian life is staying connected to Jesus. Remain in him. You don’t receive Jesus and then move onto bigger and better things. There are no bigger and better things than Jesus! If Jesus is “the life“, then disconnecting from him means disconnecting from the source of life.

If you’re not connected to Jesus – anything you do is useless. Those connected to Jesus will be useful, they will bear fruit for eternity. Going through a tough time? You may be getting pruned: this refinement leads to greater fruit! Remain in Jesus.
