Clovelly needs Jesus

God is doing exciting things through St Luke’s Church Clovelly. Last week we were part of their first Summer Festival. Many kids and families heard the good news of Jesus and the church continues to have a positive impact on the community. We were really encouraged by the great bunch of gospel-minded people living on mission in Clovelly.

Each day at our team lunch, we briefly looked at each of the “I AM” statements from Jesus. Here are some of my thoughts on each passage.

See below for (unedited) updates I sent during mission via twitter/posterous:

Day 1 @ClovellyChurch Mission 2010 – “little green enemies of the gospel…”

Good time with team. Good time with morning & arvo church.
Summer Survival Guide sermon on relaxation & rest. Apologised to Dave (preacher) for applying sermon during sermon. Zzzzzzz
Leafleting the suburb. Trendy renovations abound!
These are little green enemies of the gospel:

Day 2 @ClovellyChurch Mission 2010… “our view from the party house”

Great turn out to kids club this morning. Great talks, discussion groups, and vibe. Drama, art and cricket all ran well.
Encouraging Prayer BBQ 2nite
This is our view from the party house… Not bad!

Day 3 @ClovellyChurch Mission 2010 – “beautiful place, but…”

Another great morning in kids club. Both groups looked at Luke 5: our greatest need is to be forgiven and Jesus has the authority to forgive our sin.
Doorknocking/leafleting in the arvo.
Prayed for world, particularly Haiti
Swim at Clivelly beach
Tasty tasty pizza for dinner
Beautiful place, but lots of physically and spiritually dead people:

Day 4 @ClovellyChurch Mission 2010 – “crazy party animals”

Really getting momentum and good relationships in kids program.
There are approx 9 new families keen to be part of Clovelly Church – most don’t have a church background.
Good training session after lunch with Tony Payne – he talked about his new book “The Trellis and the Vine”, good stuff on convictions and the nature of discipleship ministry.
Arvo and nite off.
Jase lost his wallet yesterday
Jase lost his keys today
Tasty thai in coogee
Here’s the crazy party animals staying in the party house:

Day 5 @ClovellyChurch Mission 2010 – “doorknocking and seafood”

From Yesterday:
Another great morning in kids club
Lots of great conversations doorknocking, a number of people keen to hear more about Jesus
Arvo swim, less sewage in water at clovelly!
Went to pub trivia at clovelly hotel. A bunch of clovellychurch peeps go each week. Good fun night. We should have won, controversial decision in paperplane throwing – chose not to exercise extreme competitiveness!
Tasty tasty seafood marinara:

Day 6 @ClovellyChurch Mission 2010 – “dan ford & todd pj”

From Friday…
Great finish to kids club. Infants had a great vibe. Primary had a great talk that tied together the whole ‘lost and found’ series: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
Drama gave a performance to their parents
Cricket played a match on a larger pitch
Art had a fantastic full day photography workshop
Clean up in the arvo
Backyard BBQ party thing had good food and good music. Not a huge turnout, but still good. Here’s 2/5ths of the band ‘Dan Ford & the Goods’:
