MOTHER’S DAY IN NIGERIA

It was a night of terror for Candice. Her village was being attacked and screams could be heard all around her. As she ran to find shelter, one of the attackers knocked her to the ground and began stabbing her with his knife. She lay very still, pretending to be dead. Eventually he left her alone, but then Candice heard another man running toward her. He slashed her leg with his machete, fracturing it and shattering her knee.

Candice is a survivor of the massacre at Dogo Nahawa, Nigeria in 2010, where more than 500 Christians were killed in one night. Already a widow whose husband had been killed for his witness of the Gospel, Candice lost her two-year-old nephew, two of her grandchildren and her 24-year-old son in the attack.

“Losing my son was like losing my life,” Candice grieved. “I feel so empty without him.” Yet in all her loss and pain, Candice still seeks God for her comfort.

Voice of the Martyrs Australia is providing special Mother’s Day packs to encourage Candice and other Christian women like her in Nigeria.

Packs are $25 each and include a Bible, bag, traditional skirt, toiletries and hot chocolate.
