Hey funky chickens. Breaking it down this week with some high culture is Michelangelo’s David. For over 3 years he’s been my profile pic on Twitter (and previously on blogger). It’s time to say goodbye. I now have a profile pic on twitter and gravatar that’s actually me. You’ll be pleased to know I’m wearing clothes. Also my about page was kinda out of date. So that’s been updated too. Check it. More content under nude dude…
See below for all the haps on dmdc in the past week or so.
Eugene Hor introduced me to TokBox at the Fervr.net launch back in May. It’s kinda like Skype, but better. It’s for video conference, video emailing, and a whole bunch of other things. I haven’t used it much yet, but it looks like a useful tool. You on it? Let’s tok…
Here’s all the haps on dmdc in the past week or so.
Hey blog dogs. Slow on the posting front lately. I’ve been: hanging with my family; tweeting like a ninja; making websites (stay tuned for a major pimping out of my design portfolio with projects from this year…); rockin’ out at weddings; and chillin’ with lots of homies. Coming up: 4 sermons this week (1 tonight, 2 next saturday, 1 next sunday); essay on Nicodemus; Philosophy exam (missed it with birth of Sam); launch of some online ventures; and some stuff and things.
The video above will rock your world. Bananas are my favourite food. This video changes everything. Seriously. Shout out to clever little monkeys and Britney. (h/t human3rror)
Breaking news. Newtown. Sydney. Australia. Dave Miers gets a credit in his Greek exam! That’s not a typo. If you happened to be walking down King St on Friday afternoon, you’d already know this… thanks for the high five! Giddy up.
We had dinner with our good friends Marty and Trine on Friday night (pic above). Marty is also uber-smart and helps me with Greek each week. Shout out.
Special announcement for online friends: Rowena and I are expecting a baby! We’re really excited. Well, I’m excited and Row’s pretty uncomfortable as there are only 3.5 weeks until download day (June 10). Stay tuned for more news on Mini-Miers.
Top 20 baby names (suggestions welcome) + weekly break it down content below:
KYCK09 has just finished its third weekend. Over the last 3 weeks I’ve consistently had people searching for “Victory Boy” find their way to dmdc. Victory Boy was a lame (good lame) superhero character featured each weekend. I know him, so I might try and see if we can get him on an episode of On the Voddy. Stay tuned. I’ve also had a few groupies searching for the MC, Danny Mitchell, I don’t think he has a blog, so go find him over on facebook. Props to Steve Jeffrey & the crew for pulling off KYCK09.
Every month smashing magazine have a killer selection of desktop calendars. Above (click it for full glory) is the one I’ve selected for May. In other breaking news, please don’t tell anyone, but I kinda enjoyed some Greek study tonight!!
Back to school tomorrow. Next on the radar is a Greekexam in a couple of weeks. Yesterday I even chose Greek study over going skiing!! How stupid, but necessary! Back to regular dmdc coverage from tomoz. Stay tuned for the latest design gear I’ve been working on and other exciting adventures. Thanks for reading. Just hit 120 peeps subscribing in RSS. Not doing it yet? Do it now!
Here’s a mini version of the normal break it down content:
I inadvertently helped to start a discussion on Paul Grimmond’s latest Sola Panel post. The discussion began with discussing how long blog posts should be, but then progressed to talk about how to use the blogging medium in general.
I’ve posted before on why I blog (2006, 2008, 2009). What do you think? What’s the point of a blog? How long should posts be? Why do you return to a blog (or subscribe)?
It’s been a couple of weeks since the last break it down. I’ve been breaking it down all over the place! Good couple of weeks. Hung out with lots of great peeps and it’s been exciting to see God at work as Jesus is proclaimed.
Break it down posts are supposed to mention something happening in culture. Probably the most significant cultural thing over the past couple of weeks was our new vodcast, onthevoddy.com, reaching #1 in the Australian iTunes rankings for Religious + Spirituality Video Podcasts. Here’s the evidence from some crazy australian.
I don’t want to keep talking about twitter, but… It’s been getting stacks of media coverage! I’ve had friends who don’t do computers ask me what’s the deal with twitter. Watch this video, and then it will all make sense! The Twouble with Twitter:
Facebook has changed their front page. It looks more like Twitter. I now find it easier to not waste time on facebook. Less grabs my attention and you have to go there too often to keep up with the stream of information. Break it down:
SoundRelief was a unique music event held simultaneously in Sydney and Melbourne. It raised about $5Million for victims of the Victorian BushFires and Queensland floods. We listened on and off during the day via triple j. Lots of great music moments!
The concert reminded me that group singing isn’t that weird. Lots of Christians claim that group-singing is something foreign to non-Christians. I disagree. Generation Y are happy to sing in a group. They sing heartily at karaoke, sporting events, football change rooms and live music concerts. Give them a cause and a reason to sing and they will. Churches could tap into that – don’t just song as a filler – but sing with purpose and passion. (See nath + dan for related ideas).
Word up homies. I’ve had a good weekend. Chores. Wedding. Reading. Church. Food. Bible. Sleep. Family. Things. Stuff. How was your weekend? Hope you have a killer week!
Excessive Celebration video above. Very funny. Watch until the end (h/t failblog)
I really enjoyed watching the Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United A-League Football (Soccer) grand final last night. It was a gritty match with some bad refereeing decisions. While Adelaide played well in patches, I think that Melbourne deserved the win. The highlight was seeing Roddy Vargas’ undershirt “I love Jesus.” Very cool. Here’s a pic.
Kaka is also known for wearing Jesus t-shirts under his soccer jersey. It was a capacity crowd, 54000, at last night’s game. This got me thinking. Where do A-League crowds rank compared to other football codes in Australia? Here’s what I found on wikipedia:
Jesus Life Culture Design finished last week. Good Riddance. In it’s place is something bigger, badder and bolder – BREAK IT DOWN! The aim is to do a weekly break down of stuff in the news, in culture and on this blog. It will have some similar gear that JLCD had, but a bit more in the way of culturey stuff, and a bit more variety too.
I’ve been listening to Nova 969 for the last couple of weeks, but think it’s time to switch back to Triple J. I like to listen to pop music and commercial stations to see what they’re playing, and hear what people are listening to, but can only ever do it for a limited amount of time! Below are the current top 10 singles on the ARIA Charts.
