The word gospel means ‘good news’. It is a momentous ‘we interrupt this program’ type of news. The gospel of Jesus is news that the whole world needs to hear and believe.
God uses the gospel powerfully in the lives of all who believe in it. But the gospel is not just to be believed once, it needs to be the daily diet of believers.
One of my goals with this blog is to “keep the gospel on repeat”. Just like a song you love to listen to again and again, the news of Jesus needs to be repeated every day.
This is how the Apostle Paul summarises the gospel,
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. (1 Corinthians 15:3-5 ESV)
The gospel is all about Jesus and what he has done in his death and resurrection. The above video sermon seeks to unpack these important words for unbelievers and believers alike.
“The gospel cannot be preached and heard enough, for it cannot be grasped well enough… Moreover, our greatest task is to keep you faithful to this article and bequeath this treasure to you when we die.” (Martin Luther)
“My brethren, preach Christ, always and evermore. He is the whole gospel. His Person, offices, and work must be our one great, all comprehending theme. The world needs still to be told of its Saviour, and of the way to reach him.” (Charles Spurgeon)
