Page of Awesomeness

Today is our Biblical Theology exam. There is a “BT Pack of Awesomeness” floating around, with a whole bunch of summary sheets for different topic areas. As good as the “pack” is, let me introduce you to… The “PAGE” of Awesomeness! This page has a framework that will help me to answer more than half of all the possible questions.

The “page of awesomeness” is basically a table and an extract from God’s Big Picture. GBP is a book by Vaughan Roberts that traces the story-line of the Bible under the theme of ‘The Kingdom of God’. Roberts’ aim was to further simplify the work of Graeme Goldsworthy and make it available to an even broader audience (if you are in youth ministry, get your teenagers into GBP!).

The Incarnation of God

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1-3,14) Jesus, the creator of the universe, steps onto our planet and shares in the flesh of his creation.

The incarnation of the Son of God is significant within the purposes of God. The Apostle Paul puts it like this, “In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself” (2Cor 5:19). Graeme Goldsworthy says of its significance, “The incarnation of God is at the very centre of the gospel event by which God restores the true relationship between himself and the human race” (ATP, 264). In the incarnation Jesus shows himself to be: the true and living God; the true people of God; and the true Temple of God.

Davis, Henderson, Mayfield + Winehouse

I got some new music from JB Hifi on Thursday night. I had a $40 gift voucher and picked up 4 CDs from Miles, Joe, Curtis + Amy.

  1. Miles Davis – Kind of Blue: This CD is incredible. Chris got it for me for my 21st birthday, but it was stolen (we think) sometime in the last year. It’s considered to be one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time and Rolling Stone had it at #12 on their 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
  2. Joe Henderson – Page One: This was a reasonably random purchase. I was deciding between this one and a couple of other Jazz albums – and I chose this one because I liked the cover. It’s an awesome CD!!
  3. Curtis Mayfield – The Very Best Of: About 10 years ago I heard a Curtis Mayfield song on the radio and wrote his name on my steering wheel so that I wouldn’t forget to look up more of his works. It’s taken 10 years – but The Very Best of Curtis Mayfield is very cool. He has a similar sound to Marvin Gaye. Soul, R&B, Funk.
  4. Amy Winehouse – Frank: This is her debut album from 2003. Winehouse smashes out some killer R&B, Soul and Jazz tracks.
