NOBODY LIKES STALE BREAD

We’ve all visited out-of-date websites advertising the Christmas lunch from 4 years ago. Content is king online. So keep the content fresh! I know you might be thinking that this requires a lot more work. Right? Not necessarily.

There is probably someone(s) that is regularly producing content for your weekly gatherings. So rather than producing brand new material for your website, adapt the material you’re already creating.

  • Do you give bible talks? Record them and share them as a podcast online.
  • Do you write full-text bible talk notes? You could turn a section of your talk into a blog post.
  • Do you give out bible studies to youth? Make them available to download.
  • Do you provide daily bible reading notes? Distribute them online as well.
  • Do you send out a weekly email? Sit in front of a camera and say the same thing and upload it online.
  • Do you have a newsletter you send to parents once a term? Slice it up into relevant paragraphs and release them online across the term.
  • Do you produce postcards or promo flyers? Share them online.
  • Does someone take official photos on a camp? (With appropriate permission etc.) Share them on your website.
  • Did you read an interesting article on a youth website like www.fervr.net? Share a quote and provide the link on your website.
  • Do you read Christian books? Do the same as above with a link to where people can buy the book.
  • Is there a committee that provide prayer points for the persecuted church? Share them online.
  • Do you make videos after camps or videos promoting events? You know the drill.

Many youth leaders work hard preparing different material that is used only once. Keep working hard – but with not much more time you will be able to have the content used many more times!

This series forms the basis of a chapter I wrote in a forthcoming Youth Ministry book to be published by Anglican Youthworks. The rest of the book is written by Scott Petty (Youth Minister from Christ Church St Ives) and is published here with permission.
