Hi, I’m Rhett if we haven’t met yet

Slow activity on eternal weight of glory at the moment… So let me introduce you to my colleague, brother in Christ and friend: Rhett. Rhett is a godly man who trusts in Jesus and seeks to serve Jesus, his family and our church in marvellous ways. This year when he was MC at church one night he said when welcoming something along the lines of: “Hi, I’m Rhett if we haven’t met yet” totally oblivious to the funny rhyme he just made. Dan and I were sitting down the front laughing at him!

Have you met Rhett yet?

Here is his profile from the church website (add some years to the age of the kids + 1 more kid!):

Rhett works as a Assistant Minister: Young Adults and Youth, at CCEC.
Rhett is married to Karina.

“I grew up in a Christian family and benefited from the children’s ministry at my local church at Carlingford in Sydney. As far back as I can remember Jesus was someone in whom I trusted and clearly remember as a young boy being thankful that he bore my sins.

As a child of the seventies (just!) I thrived on cream buns at Sunday School picnics, parachute games on the church lawn, the 80’s brought wide games at youth group camps and crystal cylinders T-shirts. All of this was in the context of learning from God’s word how to serve HIm and His people.

I worked as an auditor for an accounting firm whilst studying economics before commencing MTS (Ministry Training Scheme) at Carlingford in 1994. Where I was involved in the evening church, oversight of the Youth Ministry and the ministry at Macquarie University . I remained on the staff there until commencing 4 years of study at Moore Theological College in 1998. I joined the team at CCEC in 2002 with oversight for youth and young adults.”

Rhett is married to Karina and they have two children, Bethany (4) and Josiah (1). They all enjoy the beach and the casual Central Coast culture.

A different Jesus – Andrew Heard

Below is an extract from Andrew Heard’s article in the November Briefing: A diffeent Jesus. It’s published in full on this website.

As commendable as this is (and in its best expressions it is very commendable), the foundation it is built on – false expectations of God’s promises for prosperity – make the entire package wrong. The prosperity gospel not only misuses the Bible, it seriously misrepresents Christ. This is why a number of leading Bible scholars and pastors, including John Stott, have declared it to be a ‘different gospel’ – not because it denies fundamental biblical teachings but because it adds false and misleading doctrines to them.

I love the way that Andrew writes – I think he writes with humility and clear articulation. What do you think of the article?

Prime Minister Kevin

… how Aussie does that sound! This post isn’t political and I have no intention of revealing how or who I’ll vote for next Federal election. But how good does that sound: Prime Minister Kevin! Kevin is such an Aussie name. While there are at least 2 notable overseas exceptions (Kevin Arnold from the Wonder Years + Kevin Federline the nice gentlemen formerly married to Britney Spears), Kevin is a tops Aussie name – typified by Big Kev.

I think that Kevin Rudd could well make a good Prime Minister – we’ll see what happens. It was tragic to hear that Kim Beazley lost his brother on the same day he lost the ALP Leadership – it would have definitely put things in perspective.

What do you think of Kevin Rudd… do you think he’d make a good PM?
What do you think of the name Kevin? Add any more famous (or not-so-famous) Kevins to the komments…
