I’m puzzled by this sign that I saw outside a church today: “Any path will do if you know where you are going?”. I’m not sure how to read it. Is it saying you can get to heaven/God by any path: Jesus; Muhammad; Buddha; Krishna; Rael? Or: it doesn’t matter where life takes you now if you know you are going to heaven? Or maybe it’s not spiritual at all: Choose whichever footpath you want, because many lead to the coffee-shop or RTA or whatever?
I pray that this church won’t ignore the truth revealed in the words of Jesus and the Spirit-Inspired words of Peter: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:16) + “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
Very strange sign indeed. It raises more questions than it clarifies. Maybe that’s it’s purpose – to arouse curiosity.
More than likely though it will confirm to the non-believer that their life choices are justified.
I wonder how this church would respond to these questions:
– What’s this destination you alluded to?
– How would I know how to get there?
– How can you be sure any path gets me there?
More than likely though it will confirm to the non-believer that their life choices are justified.
i think you’re right. i don’t think the sign would really arouse the curiosity of the non-Christian – but rather they’d walk past quite comfortably having the church say what they want them to say.
good questions to ask.
is it sort of the idea that ‘i don’t want to go to heaven, all the cool people are in hell – it’s gonna be a paaaaarty’. think the joyous singing of ‘i’m on a highway to hell’
i could definitely read it in that way.
i doubt they’re preaching universalism.

i hope you’re right – but oh so ambiguous!
