Jesus Life Culture Design #6

3 Random things: #1) No Saturday morning sleep-in. I’ve been up for a few hours helping some friends move house. I enjoy helping friends move, but I’d hate to be a removalist! #2) I spent a lot of time in the car by myself yesterday. I listened to 3 of my favourite sermons. The series is by Kanishka Raffel called LOVING JESUS from Katoomba Easter Convention 2004. ‘Underestimating God’s Love’ from Luke 15:11-32, ‘Underestimating Discipleship’ from Luke 14:15-35, ‘Underestimating the worth of wealth’ from Luke 16:1-13. I didn’t get time to listen to ‘Underestimating God’s word’ from Luke 16:19-31. The series is very challenging. #3) Have a good weekend.

THE RICHARD MAEGRAITH BAND are launching their debut album next Wednesday night. Watch/listen to some tunes. Read Con Campbell’s review. Download a free song + MP3 ring tone! And read about Richard’s job. He is still one very cool jazz cat…

His new album is called Free Running. The launch is at The Basement and should be a killer night. Below are all the details off the flyer.

Davis, Henderson, Mayfield + Winehouse

I got some new music from JB Hifi on Thursday night. I had a $40 gift voucher and picked up 4 CDs from Miles, Joe, Curtis + Amy.

  1. Miles DavisKind of Blue: This CD is incredible. Chris got it for me for my 21st birthday, but it was stolen (we think) sometime in the last year. It’s considered to be one of the greatest Jazz albums of all time and Rolling Stone had it at #12 on their 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
  2. Joe HendersonPage One: This was a reasonably random purchase. I was deciding between this one and a couple of other Jazz albums – and I chose this one because I liked the cover. It’s an awesome CD!!
  3. Curtis MayfieldThe Very Best Of: About 10 years ago I heard a Curtis Mayfield song on the radio and wrote his name on my steering wheel so that I wouldn’t forget to look up more of his works. It’s taken 10 years – but The Very Best of Curtis Mayfield is very cool. He has a similar sound to Marvin Gaye. Soul, R&B, Funk.
  4. Amy WinehouseFrank: This is her debut album from 2003. Winehouse smashes out some killer R&B, Soul and Jazz tracks.
