Re:Lit – Timeless Truths for Truthless Times

The Resurgence have just launched a new website for their publishing arm Re:Lit. Re:Lit recently published Vintage Jesus, and will soon be releasing Death by Love (both books are by Mark Driscoll & Gerry Breshears).

Among their library I noticed that Total Church (by Tim Chester & Steve Timmis) will be republished by Re:Lit in September. A series of short books called A book you’ll actually read (by Mark Driscoll) will be published shortly. See below for videos on each of the books:

Jesus Life Culture Design #6

3 Random things: #1) No Saturday morning sleep-in. I’ve been up for a few hours helping some friends move house. I enjoy helping friends move, but I’d hate to be a removalist! #2) I spent a lot of time in the car by myself yesterday. I listened to 3 of my favourite sermons. The series is by Kanishka Raffel called LOVING JESUS from Katoomba Easter Convention 2004. ‘Underestimating God’s Love’ from Luke 15:11-32, ‘Underestimating Discipleship’ from Luke 14:15-35, ‘Underestimating the worth of wealth’ from Luke 16:1-13. I didn’t get time to listen to ‘Underestimating God’s word’ from Luke 16:19-31. The series is very challenging. #3) Have a good weekend.

Page of Awesomeness

Today is our Biblical Theology exam. There is a “BT Pack of Awesomeness” floating around, with a whole bunch of summary sheets for different topic areas. As good as the “pack” is, let me introduce you to… The “PAGE” of Awesomeness! This page has a framework that will help me to answer more than half of all the possible questions.

The “page of awesomeness” is basically a table and an extract from God’s Big Picture. GBP is a book by Vaughan Roberts that traces the story-line of the Bible under the theme of ‘The Kingdom of God’. Roberts’ aim was to further simplify the work of Graeme Goldsworthy and make it available to an even broader audience (if you are in youth ministry, get your teenagers into GBP!).

The Incarnation of God

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1-3,14) Jesus, the creator of the universe, steps onto our planet and shares in the flesh of his creation.

The incarnation of the Son of God is significant within the purposes of God. The Apostle Paul puts it like this, “In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself” (2Cor 5:19). Graeme Goldsworthy says of its significance, “The incarnation of God is at the very centre of the gospel event by which God restores the true relationship between himself and the human race” (ATP, 264). In the incarnation Jesus shows himself to be: the true and living God; the true people of God; and the true Temple of God.

Viva la Revolution #4 – Follow Jesus

Jesus is the Revolutionary King who suffers and dies in the place of sinners. He did the unexpected. What does it mean to follow Jesus? Doing the unexpected. Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Following Jesus is radical and unexpected.

Who would want to worship a crucified saviour??? There’s an ancient graffiti sketch of an early Christian, Alexamenos, worshipping Jesus. The picture (click above for full pic) mockingly shows Jesus as half man/half donkey hanging on a cross. The world looks on in ridicule at the death of Jesus upon a dirty piece of wood. Jesus says in Mark 8:38 not to be ashamed of Him. Though the world may laugh, the follower of Jesus is to not only trust in Christ but also boast in His ridiculed cross. Following Jesus means you follow Jesus, not the opinions of man, not the latest techno-gadget, not the selfish desires of your heart. To follow Jesus is to love Jesus and to live for Jesus.

Wanna “Live the Revolution”??? Then follow Jesus.
