It’s not just religious nuts who think that pornography is harmful. Today I heard Dr William Struthers, a neurologist from the USA, speak on the harmful impact porn has on the brain. He is in Australia doing some events during June with non profit Guilty Pleasure. This was my first introduction to Guilty Pleasure, but it looks like they have some really valuable resources on this topic.
Here’s some more info from their about page:
Guilty Pleasure is a not for profit organisation registered in the USA and Australia whose primary purpose is to educate people about the harmful effects of pornography and connect those in need to professional help. As part of our resources we are developing a documentary, sermon series, leadership manual and website that explores the reasons why people get addicted to pornography. What goes on in the brain? What happens to addicts psychologically? What happens to their lives? How do they recover? How do those they love deal with it? How do you prevent it entering the home? How do you teach kids about its effects?
Guilty Pleasure is:
>> Focused towards unlocking the shame and guilt in men and women’s lives as a result of porn viewing.
>> Focused towards a better understanding of porn addiction and the struggle to overcome it.
>> Focused towards starting a cultural change in the church towards dealing with the problem of pornography.
>> Focused towards directing people to courses and programs that will help them recover from their addiction.
