    i was talking to my bro-in-law (nathan) the other day about cake… so that is a very good suggestion!! dig their gear, but don’t own any albums.

    which one is the best fashion nugget or comfort eagle?
    which one has ‘i will survive’ on it?

  4. playlist for Fashion Nugget: I reckon that this is one of those ‘listen happily to every track’ albums (although sad songs and waltzes gets on my nerves a bit after a while). Only down side is that it doesn’t include short skirt/long jacket … but you should have $1.69 to spare ;)

  7. I tend to use itunes to get random songs that I like (that I may have heard on the radio for example, or hits from my teenage years) but would never want to buy the complete album. I like actually owning a physical CD, so if I want a complete album I dont use itunes, even if it is a few dollars cheaper…

    Also, if you have an ipod touch or an iphone you could use your voucher to purchase apps for it. There are some pretty good ones out there for only a few dollars too.

  9. Not sure if you’d go for my music suggestions, something tells me you’re not that into pop :)

    But, you can buy TV shows now days – I saw them advertising scrubs season 7 for about $3 an episode – not sure if that’s a good deal or not?

  11. $20 is a lot of random songs, but you don’t have to spend it all at once. You could keep it for when a new song comes on the radio that you like.

    Suggestions… Well, I bought matchbox 20’s greatest hits late last year, and it has been a regular on my ipod ever since. They had some classics back in the 90s.

    Rage Against the Machine had some unbelievably awesome songs, which you could pick and choose a few from their different albums. Obviously the lyrics can be a tad obscene at times, but seeing as they don’t sing about sex and money I don’t thing they are any worse than a lot of modern pop artists.

    But think about all the songs you used to sing along to while cramming for exams and that will point you in the right direction…

  12. Talking about Cake… while Fashion Nugget is their best, don’t underestimate their less well known earlier album Motorcade of Genorosity. In some ways I prefer it. Joelene, Rock and Roll Lifestyle, Jesus Wrote a Blank Check are all classic songs. Remember seeing them live at the Coogee Bay Hotel in 97.

    AS far as cramming for exams – in school i used to listen to classical music.now i listen to jazz… i can’t have words otherwise i sing along.

  14. I totally hear where you’re coming from with the words thing. In school I also listened to lyric-less music when studying as the lyrics would interfere with what I was writing (sometimes I accidentally wrote down lyrics in my study notes). The exception was maths study which was fine, unless I suppose if the artist was singing about numbers :)

    Through uni a lot of my study was numbers based, so again lyrics were not an issue.

  15. I thought they were brilliant live, but it was the wrong venue for them. They would have done much better in a smaller, more intimate setting. I don’t think Selena’s brought out the best in them and they were noticably agitated by the crowd. The mate I saw them with later saw them in the US in a smaller venue and said they were 100% better.

  16. Talking about the whole music and studying thing, I have been digging Sigur Ros lately, has words, but hard to sing them cause they in Icelandic and his vocal register is way out of my range.
    If you were looking for an album of theirs I would suggest Takk, but their latest one (Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust) is cool too.

  20. How did you go with FisherKing? I have the privilege of living next-door to their rehearsal space, and I’ve never complained about the noise (even though Josh & Sam are always wary of waking up my kids). Haven’t heard the EP itself yet…
