Is he or isn’t he?

Don Carson. Is he or isn’t he? Carson has written oodles of books – but it’s difficult to find what he believes about the Millennium in Revelation. It’s been debated whether he is Premil or Amil. I thought he was Premil, but Reformation Theology is suggesting he’s Amil. Heardy preached a cracker on it last term.

For the record – Revelation has little to say about the Millennium, but much to say about JESUS. It’s all about Jesus. If you’re a fruit loop and think it’s all about the Millennium go and have a read of it! If you have no idea about what I’m talking about go read this and this (no girly skirt on Jesus in this passage – just a tattoo, sword and blood) about Jesus. Rock on…

  1. just noticed that both of those bible passages are blu tacced on the hot water system in our toilet room!

  2. Hey Big Fella.

    Cool Graphic.

I suspect with Carson it’s a case of not discussing it all that much, because he doesn’t see it as important enough to get into. It might be a little like John Stott and annihilationism. No doubt Carson has bigger fish to fry and doesn’t want to alienate a massive chuck of his audience by going one way or the other (coming down amil would alienate more than a massive chunk).

As you say, Revelation is all about Jesus and so is The Don!

  3. Ah, I just flicked over to the RT link and the fella seems to say something to that effect:

“D.A. Carson is Amill, but when he took the position at Trinity, he appears to have decided not to talk about it much.”

Be good to hear The Don speak about why he seems to have made that decision, but he probably wouldn’t even engage to that extent!

Imagine being a significant enough theologian (I always type ‘theologican’ accidentally – hmmm) that people write articles this way and that on what you believe. That would be weird.

  4. hey benny.

good points. it’s good to keep the main thing the main thing.

i remember hearing (who knows how true it is) that when pdjensen was being interviewed in the states they thought it odd that he was amil – in the us – that is often associated with liberals… i think?

  5. here’s a Propphesy…

benny – one day you’ll be one of those theologican that we all talk about!

(stone me if i’m a false prophet)

  6. (I think I feel a stoning coming on…)

Re PDJ, I think many in the US would feel that it was more than odd that an evangelical could be amil, when (to them) the issue is so cut-and-dried.

    You said it: Main Thing.
