i think it’s appropriate to preach against things publicly. this is one of those things. it must be done in love – but i think that piper proclaiming his hatred of it – is not unhelpful!
he so clearly points to Jesus and the folly of pros.gosp.
saw that joel osteen video a month or 2 ago – def sickening… but i don’t like the way that a little leaven (and others like them) go about their critique. it’s often unloving… and they often focus oon peripheral things. from memory that video they have all the little snide comments throughout it.
i think this video is awesome. i have many charo mates and some people in their church believe in prosperity gospel and actually tell people who arent getting the good stuff like money cars etc etc they must be doin somethin wrong and sinning. i just think they are just like jobs so called mates ur sinnin wat hav u done rong to God when he had nothin rong God was in control. matthew 16:19-21 says: 19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
good call nath.
it’s difficult to look at the plight of millions of Christians around the world and believe in the prosperity gospel.
it’s difficult to read the Bible and believe the prosperity gospel.
philippians – for it was granted to you on behlaf of Christ not only to believe in him but also to suffer for him! php 1:29
Though prosperity does not soley come out of the US, its encouraging that the US is no longer the largest Christian ‘centre of gravity’. This article is fascinating.
Its also encouraging to hear church leaders in Africa ect. speaking out about the ‘American Gospel’.
Wow! Powerful, but I’m not sure those following a prosperity gospel would call it that (or do they?). He makes it pretty clear what he is targeting though!
Saw this article from Christianity Today on the DesiringGod.org blog.
Very worrying. I hope the next mission field is not re-claiming these areas for the real Jesus. I feel that it would be a much harder task than the original claiming.
haysey… i saw that today too.
i agree it’s a difficult mission field… but i think there’s also an opportunity where people are willing to submit to the bible – if only someone will teach it in context!! and maybe also when they see the PG is just not in line with reality!
we must be reading the same blogs!
I saw that a couple of months ago on DesiringGod.
I hate it. But, apart from oposing it personally, its hard to see what can be done on a global scale?
This guy makes me sick with anger.
