More2life is the basketball team that I put together 2.5 seasons ago. At the time I was weighing up whether to bring my own team of Christian friends together or go down to the stadium and ask to be put into a team of strangers. Within a day of simply mentioning it to a couple of people at church… we had a team!! I work for a church and although I have contact with non-Christians, they are usually contacts from other people at church rather than friends of my own.
I am going to quit the team at the end of the season!!! Next season I will either go into a team that needs players at the stadium or change to a better sport… indoor soccer with a bunch of strangers.
I’d been thinking about it for a while and a conversation with Dave Sheath a couple of days ago pushed me over the line. He’s a minister and plays in a basketball team and uses it as an opportunity for fitness and building friendships with non-Christians.
What do you think of my decision? Good, bad or ugly?
Which one is me in the photo? Good, bad or ugly?
Good decision
Yep good move. 2nd from the left in the front row.
we got slaughtered last night! we only had 4 players on team (jon thinks a jet concert is more important than the team!!!) and 1 of our players was sick – so he did a great job to last 40 minutes… but couldn’t run much. we fought hard and didn’t lose by that much… it was good fun.
thanks for the comments… keep them coming!!
Good decision Dave – was only discussing this today (for me, not you).
However, not to say to stick to a Christian team not good. The way a team of Christians plays and responds to refs calls and interatcs with the other team I’d say would be speaking volumes for the Lord Jesus Christ to every team you play. Guess now it’ll be on a more personal level with people in your new team.
dave have you chatted to your TEAM about this to see what they think, as i was at a jet concert i may have missed the discussion..
reimer – i agree that being different as a eam speaks volumes… and hopefully i can be different in the context of a new team
jon the jet watcher.
i don’t feel any obligation to talk with the team about quitting at the end of the season…
just like others who have had uni on a thursday night, broken their neck, prac in tamworth, or a jet concert.
i’m committed for this season…
and then after that i’ll either go to a better sport (soccer!!!) or a new team at terrigal
