The following is an update from the CEO of World Vision Australia, Tim Costello.
“As I write, the death toll here has already reached more than 5000 people, with a further 10,000 injured. Sadly, the Nepalese Prime Minister has warned that the death toll may exceed 10,000 people within days.
It’s hard for me to describe the emotions that flooded my mind and heart as I arrived in Nepal – and was confronted with the reality of so many lives lost, so many still missing, and millions more lives forever changed.
World Vision has more than 200 staff on the ground responding to the needs of survivors, especially children. We are working to meet the immediate needs for clean water, food, household supplies, temporary shelter and protection for children. In many areas, access is so limited the only way to get aid to where it’s most needed is on foot. Please pray that we will be able to get supplies to where they are most needed quickly.”
