On 28 July 08 a couple of hundred people packed out the Avoca Beach Cinema for an uplifting night of singing praise to Jesus. The Nite EV crew have done an incredible job at pulling together their first live album: NiteEV Live.
The recording quality of the instruments is exceptional, and even though some of the vocals are wobbly at times, it only adds to the raw energy of the album. Have a listen. Click to keep reading and for pictures from the night:
The album contains 9 tracks (plus 1 bonus track). The first 3 tracks are played by the folk sounding Shadow Gallery. Tracks 4-6 are keyboard driven pop tunes played by Purchased. And 7 through 9 are played by the hard-driving Jacob I loved. The three different bands add a unique flavour and musical variety to the album.
There is a good combination of new songs with new tunes and old songs with new tunes. So many modern Christians songs speak in vague generalities about God without much substance, but these songs are beautifully drenched with cross-centred lyrics.
The stand out tracks are the ones by Jacob I loved. The energy of their 3 songs and the increased participation from the congregation comes through onto the recording. My favourite song is the anthemic “Holy Sovereign Lord”.
I thoroughly recommend NiteEV live. If you are part of the music ministry at your church, definitely download/order a copy, I’m sure you’ll be able to find some of the songs useful in your own context.
