“Through the person and work of Jesus Christ, God fully accomplishes salvation for us, rescuing us from judgement for sin into fellowship with him, and then restores the creation in which we can enjoy our new life together with him forever.”

Repentance?
Judgement?
I’m not aiming to be pedantic or disagree, just wondering about the essentials to a simple gospel message like that.
lol. ignore ‘judgement’ in my above comment.
Or Dave, you could just delete it to make me look less like an idiot :-)
Glad you’re into Keller. He’s awesome. I’m just in the process of re-reading The Reason for God.
hey geoff. does a gospel statement have to have to say everything? one of the points keller makes in that article is that he can’t always cover every point of the gospel in a talk.
1 cor 15:3-6 – the gospel is that Jesus died for sins, was buried, raised and appeared. a clear gospel statement without repentance… although v1-2 has a clear statement on continuing to believe the gospel.
Jesus says in Mark 1 – “Repent and believe the gospel”. The gospel isn’t repentance, but repentance is a response to the gospel.
what do you think of that distinction?
Mike – i appreciate stacks of what keller does and says. i think my first real intro to him was his 2006 resurgence talks = GOLD!
i can’t remember reading a review of the reason for God on your blog… look forward to reading it after your 2nd read through. i’ve recommended it to a friend investigating Jesus – but haven’t yet been able to read it myself.
peaceout amigos.
DUDE. Go straight to Moore Books and BUY THAT BABY! Do not pass Go and do not collect $200.
i can’t… just not yet!! i keep reading books i’m not supposed to be reading… and failing to read the books i’m supposed to be reading… but your endorsement has cemented its place in my top couple of books for summer reading!!
