Michael Collings – Tracksuit Wearing Legend!

Humans are so superficial. If someone doesn’t fit a certain celebrity stereotype, we write them off. Paul Potts and Susan Boyle were a bit awkward and/or uncool, so we were shocked by their amazing performances on Britain’s Got Talent. Michael Collings is the latest ordinary person to rebuke our superficiality! Click here to check out his recent performance.

Cool story. Ordinary fella. (Even though he’s playing a cheap Ashton!) he’s got some mean skills on the guitar and an amazing voice. Boom!

Simply Sing – Fresh Songs for Churches

When my friend Matt Mulready contacted me and said I should check out his new music project, I knew it would be good. But let me be honest, it’s much better than I was expecting!! Let me explain. Simply Sing is seeking “to equip God’s family with fresh songs that teach and respond to the saving work of Jesus.” Cool aim. I knew that the songs would do that. They do. The music is great, and the lyrics are really encouraging.

After I downloaded the tracks I prepared myself to listen to some basic demo’s. This is when I was blown away (not literally, I’m pretty heavy and the wind would need to be pretty strong). The tracks that they’ve produced aren’t basic demo’s. They are really tight, well produced and recorded songs. Sweet!

Simply Sing have released 5 songs with the launch of the website. For a limited time it includes a free download of See the Man. The other tracks are priced cheaper than tracks on iTunes. Win. I really enjoy the new music to the old hymn There is a Green Hill. It’s a tough call, but of the 5 tracks my favourite is At your Feet. Check out these great lyrics from verse 1 and the chorus:

LIVING DEVOTION – Live Album Recording

I’ve just heard from my friend Bren McClean that St Paul’s Castle Hill will be recording a live worship album next weekend! City Alight was a killer album, so this is a sweet opportunity to be part of another great project. See below for full deets:

LIVING DEVOTION is the first ever LIVE recorded music event at St Paul’s Castle Hill. Saturday 5th March will be a night of singing and corporate worship with an acoustic band, in an intimate yet dynamic setting. Ro Tombs and Trav Cook are working tirelessly with a committed team of singers, musicians and technical people. Under God, the new album will bless our church with a collection of loved and new St Paul’s original songs. Our hope is that it will also be a powerful resource to other congregations both locally and abroad.

LIVING DEVOTION is an event for anyone who loves God and loves music. Book a ticket now for your family and friends for this exceptional night of lifting up Christ in our lives. Tickets available NOW for $10, or $15 on the night and include a copy of the album when it is released.

Lecrae’s New Album – REHAB: THE OVERDOSE

REHAB from Lecrae is my favourite album from 2010. Brilliant. Each track is packed full of encouragement to live a counter-cultural life. He has a follow up album coming out on 11 Jan 11. Can’t wait! Here’s the press release from Reach Records:

Around every corner is the lure to consume. A desire to be satisfied. Unfortunately no human being has found anything under the sun that brings satisfaction. So we consume more, and more, and more.  Eventually, we overdose. However, there is hope–if Christianity is our Rehab. In Jesus, satisfaction can be found. Grace, love, peace and hope can be found…and there is always more. Consume more of Jesus. Overdose.

Rehab: The Overdose officially hits stores and online outlets 11.1.11. Promo video:

Free Music Friday 11 // The Ember Days

One of the bands I’ve been enjoying from the Come&Live website is The Ember Days. You can pick up  2 of their EP’s and 1 Album. Your Eyes Light Up album (2007), The Ember Days EP (2009), Finger Painting EP (2010) all for FREE!!! They have some fairly catchy pop-rock numbers through to some more haunting (almost, but not quite, Sigur Ros-esque) adventurous ballads. There is also some really cool worship stuff, but I’m not sure how it would go in a church congregation. All-in-all, highly recommended.

Now – having formed in New Zealand, the reality is that if they continue to increase in popularity and success, Australia will claim them as one of our own! If you enjoy The Ember Days (or any of the other bands on Come&Live), make sure you drop them some coin. // WebTwitter | Facebook | Album 1 | EP 2 | EP 3
