PHIL WICKHAM // THIS IS AMAZING GRACE

One of the great features of attending a large conference like Oxygen is the joy of singing with throngs of other Christians. The opening song in today’s first session was ‘No Other Name’ by Trev Hodge, it was loud, clear and Christ-centred. One of those goose bump moments. Great stuff.

I love to feature newish music on this blog. Phil Wickham’s ‘This is Amazing Grace’ was introduced in the same session. Great tune, solid lyrics. To be honest, I think the arrangement today was even better than the official video above! Here’s the chorus:

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You lay down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh, Jesus, I sing for
All that You’ve done for me

I’m blogging this week at Oxygen. With a flurry of quotes coming out on twitter too.

DON’T TO TRY TO CONFORM TO ‘BEAUTY’

‘TRY’ is a great film clip by Colbie Caillat about not needing to conform to photoshopped images of beauty. It’s gone viral the last few days, but in case you haven’t seen it, it’s a message that all people – male and female, young and old – need to keep hearing.

It’s easy to compare ourselves horizontally to those around us. What we need to do is look up and define ourselves vertically.

I don’t know much about Colbie Caillat and her music, but Jazon Mraz is popular in our house and so his duet with Caillat ‘Lucky’ is a favourite.

CITIZENS ALBUM IS FREE ON NOISETRADE

citizens-citizens

Citizens are one of the most exciting bands making music for Christians to sing as they gather. Based in the local church, Mars Hill, many of their songs have grown out of Bible teaching in their church and make much of Jesus. Creatively they are producing a distinct, yet singable sound.

I’ve posted 3 of their films clips here, here and here. I recently recommended one of their songs in a post on newish songs to sing in church. And I included their Christmas EP as one that doesn’t suck. It’s safe to conclude I’m a fan :)

You can now download their debut album for FREE from via Noisetrade.

(If you’re young and cash-less… go crazy on the “free” part! If you’ve got cash, I reckon the album is worth a tip)

The Free download is for a limited time only.

JERUSALEM // FREE @CITYALIGHT SONG AND RESOURCES FOR CHURCHES

I’m a long time fan of the congregational tunes coming out of St Paul’s Castle Hill in Sydney’s north west. They have just released a new track – Jerusalem – under the new name ‘CityAlight‘. In my opinion it is one of their best songs.

Jerusalem beautifully traces Jesus’ journey into Jerusalem, to the cross, his death, the empty tomb and now reigning on the throne in the New Jerusalem.

Here is the second half of verse 3:

Feel the earth is shaking now
See the veil is split in two
And He stood before the wrath of God
Shielding sinners with His blood

In a time where some are seeking to remove the wrath of God from their singing, I appreciate the explicit reference to the work of Jesus turning aside God’s wrath from sinners and onto Himself. What a Saviour!

I also love the movement from Jerusalem to the New Jerusalem and that it begins with people crying out for murder but ends with people crying out in praise of the One who saves. Brilliant!

Check out the website for: free mp3 download; video download; lyrics and chord chart. All great resources for churches. If you like it, go to iTunes and buy the track to help keep it at number 1 and to support this great ministry! I’m eagerly anticipating the full album coming out in June.

If you’ve stumbled here and don’t know much about what Jesus’ death on the cross was all about… listen to the song and then read this, this and this.
