// HAPPY (NO) BIRTHDAY!

Just about to take off for final leg home to Australia. Have had an excellent time in USA… Learnt so much from @villagechurchtx and @spanishriverchurch! Full head, full heart… And full belly :)

Because I’m flying back over the international date line, I’m going to miss my birthday! I tried to convince @qantas to give me a complimentary upgrade. But failed.

Now I’m sitting next to some guy on his first international flight. He’s freaking out. I’m probably going to have to hold his hand.

I’ve loved spending a few days at the Spanish River Church Plant Retreat #srcpr!

This incredible gospel-centred church gives 20% of their budget away each year towards church planting! In the last 12 months they have been part of planting 77 churches in 25 different nations!! Generosity like this will keep changing the world and echo into eternity.

Guy Mason was inspiring as he shared stories in church this morning of how the message of Christ is changing people’s lives through City on a Hill in #Australia.

I’m leaving Dallas today with a full head, full belly and full heart. Thankful for the hospitality of The Village Church Texas and its people.

I’ve been struck by the centrality of the gospel in all I’ve seen during my visit. The message – of what Christ has done in living the perfect life, dying the death our sin deserves and rising to give new life to all who trust in him – is explicit in church, music, preaching, service leading, prayers, meetings, groups, homes and over meals.

Particularly thankful for the gospel-centred generosity of Dave and Vicky. I’ve learnt so much from them over the last 10 days. They’re an inspiration in the way they love people radically and seek to serve God and his church.

// COMMUNITY + GARDENING

So many great people to meet on this visit to @villagechurchtx! One person I’ve really enjoyed hanging out with is Rob (pictured). As the Connections Minister, he does a great job leading the teams in helping people connect into the life of the church.

On Saturday I enjoyed doing gardening with him at his community garden plot. Afterwards he showed me around South Dallas. The people living in that area are some of the most marginalised in all of Dallas. I was inspired by his desire to one day move back into the area and be part of a gospel work.

Lots to learn from this brother as he lets the gospel shape his life, family and ministry.

For lunch we enjoyed ridiculously good Texan BBQ :)
