Words of God in Black

There has been a bit of blog talk today on “Red-Letter Christians.” Justin Taylor had a post this morning quoting DA Carson on Red-Letter Christians and Ben Bathgate has a good round up this arvo of all the discussion on Red-Letter Christians and Red-Letter Bibles.

Red-Letter Bibles are the ones with the “words of Christ” in red. Red-Letter Christians are those who devote themselves to those red letters. Red-Letter Bibles hurt my eyes, and although they sometimes help me to follow the flow of the narrative, the concept of Jesus’ words in red being more special than all the other words is a flawed view God’s revelation of himself in the whole of the Bible.

My Bible has the words of God in black! “All scripture is breathed out by God.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

The words of God’s prophets and holy apostles are just as much the word of God as are the red-letter words of Jesus, “For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21)

Christians are to be Black-Letter Christians and let ALL the words of Christ dwell in us richly. (Colossians 3:16)

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
