5 JESUS’ STORY TIPS

1) Is Jesus’ Story the bread and butter of your teaching? // We need to keep the message of Jesus central to all that we teach in our youth communities. Things that might help: gospel outlines like Two Ways to Live; Courses like Christianity Explored and SOUL; books like Scott Petty’s Jesus; regularly teaching through the gospels; regularly teaching how Jesus is the fulfilment of all of the Old Testament; showing how Jesus is the hero of the Bible.

2) Preparation is a good opportunity for discipleship // Preparing is a good things to do! Do general training with your youth. Encourage them to write a 300 word summary of their story. Share it in small groups, get the group to help sharpen the story. Spend time with those you will be interviewing or videoing. It will be a massive encouragement for you and them.

3) There’s no such thing as a boring Jesus’ Story! // You don’t have to have been a drug dealer as a 4 year old who has been changed by Jesus to have an exciting story! Jesus is the exciting bit! How amazing if your parents or grandparents or great grandparents were Christian. Encourage young crew to be thankful for God’s kindness to them before they were even born. John 3:16 should never get old or quoted too much.

4) Use “Jesus Story” Language // I like to use this language instead of “Testimony”. It’s good in meeting and interacting with youth. e.g.. “So what’s your Jesus’ Story? … Where are you at with Jesus?” Christian ones will be able to share their testimony as you talk and with non-Christians you will be able to talk about Jesus’ story with them. Win. Win.

5) Use different mediums to share “My Jesus’ Story” // Encourage young crew to use their story in one-on-one conversations, in small groups, with live interviews at youth group or church; with recorded videos. Videos have the opportunity to be shared online and seen by even more people.
