We like glory. We love to make ourselves glorious! It’s one thing to steal glory from your friend, neighbour or sporting opponent, but it’s another thing altogether when you try and steal glory from God!! Who do you think you’re messing with!!
World Catholic Youth Day 08 is coming soon. The RTA is doing a good job at advertising it on their flashing signs on main roads in Sydney and surrounding areas. As WCYD08 gets closer, there will be lots of discussion about the differences between the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Christianity.

In preparation for some recent talks on the 5 Solas of the Reformation, I read Ray Galea’s new book Nothing in my hand I bring (published by Matthias Media). I believe that Galea’s book is a very helpful read for all Protestants in the lead up to the World Catholic Youth Day 2008 (which incidentally will cost NSW tax payers $86million).
Music and Youth Sub-Cultures
I recently gave Dan an essay question. He did a fine job in answering it. Originally the plan was to use some of his thinking in an intro for a talk, but the talk changed its tack… but it’s still helpful – and will most definitely help in an upcoming talk.
Here’s the question: In 100-1000 words (100 is fine – just saying 1000 in case you want to go crazy* with it!) discuss the impact of music on youth sub-cultures. Your answer should include the relationship of music to youth sub-culture and the changing cultural trends during the last 20 years.

I spoke on 2 camps this past week. On Youthworks Soccer Camp I got to talk about Jesus and play and coach soccer all day… so good!!! I did a modified version of some lost and found talks (plus some bible studies). The 2nd camp was CCECYOUTH Phat. It was a Viking theme called PHAT LEGENDS – good times. I spoke on ‘Truths Worth Dying For’: Bible Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone and To the Glory of God Alone (see Row’s accompanying Protestant Bio’s).

Jesus Christ is undisputedly one of the most widely known and controversial figures of human history. Even today there are t-shirts made that brand him as “my homeboy”, he is featured in classical and modern art, and his name is even used the world over as a swear word. Despite Jesus being a world wide figure of intense public interest and scrutiny, there are many in the Christian church today who do not consider the bible truths about Jesus as being central to Christian belief. John Calvin a 16th century Swiss reformation theologian and pastor is one whose life and ministry contended for the centrality of Jesus Christ to Christian belief and worship.
