Responding to Child Porn

Big news broke last night with the arrest of 70 people in a child porn bust. I’m glad when things like this happen. I’m not glad that they have committed terrible crimes, but I’m glad when justice seems to be done. I don’t delight in people being busted – Isaiah suggests that not even a perfect and holy God delights in judgement.

I need to be careful that I don’t look down on them as if I’m better than them, but see that but for the grace of God, I’m capable of terrible evil. Praise God that the blood of Jesus can cleanse even the vilest of sinners! At the cross, Jesus becomes sin for us, so that in him we become the righteousness of God. What a great Saviour!

I’m a bit of an early adopter. A few years ago I discovered twitter. It now seems that the rest of the world is catching on! Twits update their twitter account from their mobile or computer with what they are doing at any particular time. I subscribe to the ESV daily twitter and get bible verses on my phone every day. That’s pretty cool. But does the world and/or you really need to know what I’m doing? Do you twitter? Should I twitter?

Free Tunes

Nestle is giving out free songs on iTunes with the purchase of lollies and chocolate. I like free music! Below are the 5 I downloaded last night.

  1. Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) – Chris Tomlin
  2. Anyone Else But You – The Moldy Peaches
  3. This Heart Attack – Faker
  4. Zombie – The Cranberries
  5. Crazy – Gnarls Barkley

You can only download 5 tracks per iTunes account. This means that I have 2 spare songs available for download. Do you want them? Tell me what 2 songs you’d download. I will give the codes for the 2 songs at the end of the week to the best entry(ies).

Pic from the cranberries and the idea for this post is from Josh Griffin

Hallo.

DMDC update

Sam and Soph are celebrating the 2 year birthday of their blog. Except for these six posts in 2004 and 2005, this blog started properly in early May 2006, with this post. When I let the cat out of the bag, my aim was to be: concise, colourful, original and insightful. I think to varying degrees, I’ve kept the aim the same for the last two years.

In February this year, I changed the address to davemiers.com and made the blog into a 3-pronged business. Designing is the most cumbersome part of dmdc. It takes longer to produce work for someone else than it does for yourself, but I’m enjoying the websites and other design work I’m currently working on. Writing is probably the most stressful part of dmdc. Deadlines are hard to keep, but I think I’ve been able to produce some good material. Speaking is the part of dmdc that brings the most joy. It’s such a privilege to be able to proclaim Jesus to teenagers around New South Wales, encourage their youth leaders and see different styles of youth ministry. Although, it’s a bit weird getting paid to do it!

Thanks for reading, supporting and friending dmdc and its owner… warm fuzzies all ’round! (Bonus warm fuzzy for each commenter)

Hey, Hey it’s Saturday! Do you like the new name of this Saturday post? It pretty much describes the 4 main areas that I use to categorise regular posts and links. The other finalist was Hey, Hey it’s Saturday! Row liked it, but I think it’s a bit lame…

Theology of Youth Ministry Conference 08

Youthworks are running their biennial ‘Theology of Youth Ministry’ conference again this year. I went to the conference in 2006 and found it very helpful. The theme this year: Connecting the Unconnected – Thinking Strategically about Missional Engagement with Youth.

I’ll see how the work load is going at college – but I’m hoping to make it along. If you are a Youth Pastor – go and be part of this conference! More info youthworks.net or download rego form (pdf). Here are the speakers and Papers they will be presenting:
