Don’t steal God’s Glory #4

Why do people get glory? Because of who they are and/or what they’ve done. A politician or monarch or employer will get glory because of who they are. A successful athlete or cure-finding scientist or trophy-winning chef will get glory because of what they’ve done.

Why does God deserve all glory? It’s because of who he is AND what he has done.

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” (Rev 4:8) Who is God? He is Holy – that is he is different and set apart from people. He is the Lord God Almighty. And he is eternal (that’s the was/is/is bit…). God deserves all glory because of who he is.

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Rev 4:11) What has God done? He is the Creator God. People, things and stuff exist because God made them. Therefore God deserves all glory (honour and power too!) because of what he’s done in creation.

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” … “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” (Rev 5:9,12) What has God done? He is the Saviour God. When Jesus (God in flesh) died on the cross he purchased and saved a people for himself. Therefore God deserves all glory because of what he’s done in salvation.

Are you God? No? Then don’t try and steal God’s glory.

Are you the Creator? No? Then don’t try and steal God’s glory.

Are you the Saviour of the world? No? Then don’t try and steal God’s glory.
