Firefox vs Internet Explorer

Last week Microsoft came out with Internet Explorer 7. The first update for many years. Basically they ripped a bunch of ideas from Firefox + added some new stuff. Today Mozilla launched Firefox 2. It’s got some great new features. 3 Reasons I like Firefox more than IE:
1) It’s faster and more secure
2) It’s more aesthetically pleasing
3) It’s innovative

Have you downloaded IE7 and/or Firefox2? What do you think? What’s your browser of choice?

  1. I’ve been using FF2 for a few weeks now, I like it a lot better than IE, but I haven’t tried IE7.

The thing I like most about FF2? Inline spell checking – it checks your spelling in text boxes (like the one I’m typing this comment in).

I also love all the plugins you can get for it – I’ll post a list of the plugins I use shortly, with a description of them all and why you can use them

  2. yeah – i think that this spell check thing is brilliant! smarter than the one in microsoft word – and nowhere near as annoying!

look forward to hearing which plugins you use.

  3. I try to avoid IE as much as possible though it is hard when it is the automatic browser attatched to MSN.

I use Netscape mostly because of the set-up and the tabs within the browser. My dad uses Firefox.

  4. I’ve had a beta version of firefox 2 for a while. Since I use mac IE really isn’t an option… I do love firefox thought

  5. Plus I also like how each tab has an ‘x’ to close it, rather than one generic ‘x’ at the right hand side for the active tab – like in ver 1.5

  6. The DET has done this crazy internet blocking stuff at all government schoools where by all internet access is channeled through a DET portal. You can’t use any third party e-mail or messenger services, and the portal does not function at all through Firefox. Basically, you have to use IE.

I didn’t mind the old way. Now i keep going to click in the far corner and it’s not there!!

Won’t take too long to get used to.

I think microsoft has taken over the DET!!!

Is there a way to make new tabs take you straight to your home page when you open them?

Haven’t found it yet (haven’t looked either). Be interested to know if you find out.

  8. If you want the ‘x’ back in the corner you can turn it on – let me know and I’ll find out where (I saw it today).

The DET thing is a joke – my Dad teaches computing at TAFE and they can’t access 3/4 of the stuff they NEED to do the course.

    Gah!

  9. thanks for the offer ian.
i’m not too worried… but wouldn’t mind know how to do it.

still keen to hear which plugins you use too.

    hope you’re well

  10. what the? I put a link in that last comment, and instead of coming up as a like, it made the time and date an active link?? Bizarre.

  11. Started using FF2 the other day. Love it so far. Haven’t tried IE7 yet though. My three favourite extensions are:

    * Web Developer 1.0.2 – extremely handy when you are making web pages. Lots of useful tools for figuring stuff out.

    * Measure It 0.3.6 – allows quick pixel measurements of elements on a web page

    * ColorZilla 0.8.3.1 – Basically a colour picker tool that can pick up anything on your screen.

As you can see they’re all to do with web developing…
