Jesus Life Culture Design #11

Mark Driscoll is in town this week. Media Reports: smh; sydney anglicans 1; and sydney anglicans 2. There are just 2 tickets left to Sick of Religion and about 50 left to Lovin’ the Coast. Register online. I’m looking forward to hearing Mark speak a number of times over the week. Three things I value about Mark Driscoll’s preaching: 1) He’s not boring 2) He boldly speaks the truth and 3) He speaks about Jesus… a lot!

Lollies. As I said last week, I’m struggling to find good photos in my collection… maybe it’s time for a holiday! Warm Fuzzy for the function where these lollies were snapped.

Michael Guglielmucci admits faking cancer

Michael Guglielmucci was a Pastor from Planetshakers Church in Melbourne. He is known for his stuggle with cancer over the last two years. Earlier this year he released a song, Healer, about his struggle on the latest Hillsong live album. The thing is, he never had cancer. He has admitted to faking his cancer, deceiving 1000s of people including his own family. I find it difficult to imagine how he pulled it off. He may not have cancer – but I’m certain he needs help.

I read it first on Carlos Whittaker’s blog this morning. Adelaide Now and The Australian ran the news this morning. Mark Sayers’ post this afternoon quotes the letter the church leaders sent out to the church with the news. The following is a quote from Sayers I can’t help but agree with:

Is sex more like a Porsche than a Datsun?

John Dickson has 3 books that every teenagers needs to read: Hell Of A Life; A Sneaking Suspicion; and Hanging In There. The following is a famous illustration (I recently used in a talk) of John’s from A Sneaking Suspicion about how we should view sex…

“My first car was an orange Datsun 1200. It got me from A to B, but it really was a rust bucket. It only cost me a thousand bucks, so I didn’t treat it too well and had no problem lending it out to any of my friends. I figured that if they crashed it, it was no big deal. Suppose though, I owned a Porsche 968. I can assure you, I’d care for it with my life and certainly wouldn’t lend it out. In my mind, such a valuable machine deserves the utmost care. But what’s this got to do with sex and relationships?

Re:Jesus Festival 08

The Re:Jesus Festival 08 has just begun at Sydney University. The 2 week festival is run by the Evangelical Union with a solid line up of events, speakers and musicians.

They are effectively using different media including: chalking; posters; t-shirts; video; web; and word of mouth, to talk about Jesus on campus. Pray for it. If you’re in the area, go to it  + take your friends. Check out the vids below:
