YOUTH MINISTRY IDEAS // SAY “HELLO” TO NEW PEOPLE WITH A HELLO PACK

YOUTH MINISTRY IDEAS is a series of short videos by Dave Miers. See more here.
This welcoming idea is adapted from the fine work done by Scott Petty, Nicky Northcott and their team at Christ Church St Ives Youth. Say “hello” to the hello pack:

Here is the cover letter we use at Soulies: PDF (12.8 MB) and DOCX (9.7 MB).

Feel free to adapt for your context. The image is of Collaroy Beach. You might want to get an image of a beach or desert near you :)

ICEBREAKER QUESTIONS // App Giveaway

My friend Calum Henderson has followed up his killer GROUP GAMES iPhone App with another solid Youth Ministry tool. Calum’s latest release in his Group Games Network is the ICEBREAKER QUESTIONS iPhone App. Check out the short intro vid:

Here’s the official blurb:

Have you ever led a small group and needed a quick question to find out a little something about others?

Have you ever interviewed someone and wanted a non-standard question to get to know a bit more about who they really are?

Have you ever been in an awkward conversation and needed something to kickstart things?

Then this App is for you!

I regularly use Group Games and I’m sure that IceBreaker Questions will likewise be useful in our kids and youth ministry at St Faith’s.

I’ve clicked through a significant number of the random questions in this new App. They are creative, interesting, funny and would certainly be great conversation starters. I have a ridiculous number of apps on my phone. This one is probably the simplest! It does what it says it will do.

Want a free copy? I have 3 to give away. The first 3 people to say “ICE BREAK ME” in the comments of this blog post… it’s yours. If you miss out – it only costs 99c. Get on it!

I also have 2 free copies of Group Games App. First 2 people to say “GROUP GAMES” in the comments… it’s yours. (You can’t enter both competitions).

KYCK 2013. THIS IS LOVE // PROMO VID

I’ve mentioned KYCK lots of times on this blog (see some posts here). KYCK is run for teenagers by Katoomba Christian Convention over 3 weekends in April. My life was changed at KYCK in 1997 and – thanks be to God – many lives were changed when I spoke there in 2010. I’m looking forward to speaking there again in 2013 with Jeremy Dunne. Jez is a good friend and an amazing preacher! (Check out City Light Church Balmain, a new gospel-venture Jez is helping to pioneer this year.) Get tickets from the KYCK website.

LATEST VIDEOS FROM SOULIES

SOULIES has kicked off with great energy and enthusiasm with great momentum off the back of our Summercamp. Regulars are keen and they’ve been bold in inviting friends along. During our mision month (February) we have been doing a series called FOR WE ARE YOUNG AND FREE from Ecclesiastes.

Can you afford not to follow Jesus?

Some of the years 12s from our youth community recently enjoyed a week of schoolies in Forster. It included chilling, time in the bible and serving the local community. You can read a little bit about our Schoolies trip in the latest issue of Sydney Anglican’s Southern Cross magazine. This is the second year of Soulies partnering with Coast Evangelical Church. It was encouraging seeing the crew getting alongside the locals, I love seeing year 12s seeking to be a blessing to the community rather than a burden like so many other schoolies trips.

I preached at the church on Luke 14:25-35. Here is the MP3:

Dave Miers Sermon on Luke 14:25-35 CAN YOU AFFORD NOT TO FOLLOW JESUS (right click etc to download)

Here is the structure:

Jumping on the bandwagon
Context (Luke 14:25,35)
1) What does it mean to truly be one of Jesus’ followers?
a) Hate your family (Luke 14:26)
b) Carry your cross (Luke 14:27)
2) Consider the cost of following Jesus:
a) Can you afford to follow Jesus? (Luke 14:28-30)
b) Can you afford NOT to follow Jesus? (Luke 14:31-33)
He is worth it!
