DMDC award to the funniest website of 2008: Man Babies Dot Com. Simple idea. A little bit of resizing and man-to-baby and baby-to-man head swapping in PhotoShop… viola! Shout out to Stu Crawshaw for showing me the site (who has just made the best looking iWeb-made website I’ve seen for Gymea Anglican Church).
Warm fuzzy if you make your own. Leave a link in the comments (and submit it to the site too!). Here’s some from the popular page: EDIT – there’s one of me at the bottom
Saludos amigos! It’s been a big week on DMDC. Big hits from people searching for Michael-Guglielmucci (bad news) and Mark Driscoll (good news). I’ve been encouraged this week to keep trusting and proclaiming Jesus. If you’ve stumbled onto this blog and don’t know Jesus, christianity.net.au might help to answer some of your questions. In other big news, I will be pulling on the goal keepers gloves for the first time in 2 years in our soccer semi-final… almost as noteworthy as Mark Bosnich’s comeback! Peaceout.

Burn Your Plastic Jesus saw 10,000 peeps on Wednesday night at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Mark Driscoll spent a big chunk of time doing the smack down on 7 false views on Jesus, and then showed from the Bible the Real Jesus.
There was a great buzz around the gathering and MD rocked the suburbs better than Michael Jackson! I thought there were a tad too many hymns and the music was a bit 90s. Almost every word that MD has said in the last few years is available in mp3 and high def video for free at the Mars Hill Church website, yet KCC continue to charge money for sermons!
Mark Driscoll spoke yesterday afternoon at Moore Theological College. He spoke on Gospel Proclamation (1 Corinthains 9:16-18) and Gospel Contextualisation (1 Corinthians 9:19-22). It was GOLD! He didn’t pull any punches in his critique of Sydney Anglican/ Moore College culture, yet he was forthright in his praise of the commitment the College and Diocese has to the Bible.
He spoke about two main teams in contemporary churches: Really Cool Heretics and Boring Bible Guys. He said there’s a third option: The not-quite-so-boring Bible Guys. Here are 3 things he said about how to be the third option in thinking through gospel contextualisation:
He spoke with great humour as he shared his own extended testimony. He began by saying that Americans are known for coming in and picking on people… so instead he said he’d pick on himself as he spoke about his ‘religious’ background. After his testimony, the talk was a comparison between Religion and Jesus. He didn’t speak from one passage, but referred to many along the way. Here are his 10 points:
Driscoll on the Coast night #1. Wow! What an incredible night!! Mark Driscoll spoke on Lovin’ the Coast. He spoke on Exodus 20 (+ a stack of other Bible references) and the 10 commandments. He spent his whole time on #1 (You shall have no other gods before me) and #2 (you shall not make for yourself an idol…) specifically speaking about Idolatry and contrasting it with worship. The brilliant thing that Mark did was accurately diagnose the cultural context of the Central Coast.
As a non-Central Coast resident, he spoke about what he observed about the area. He summarised the idol of the Coast as the Idol of Comfort. This is our god. The Central Coast has a great love for the creation, but no love for the Creator. In the end, idolatry is really at the root of all sin.
We had a killer time last night at RICE Rally 2008! The music was great. We played the largest ever game of King Caractacus. Sam Mak and Steve Chong did a great job MCing. Mark Driscoll preached a cracker sermon on Jesus’ death and resurrection. 500+ teenagers claimed to put their trust in Jesus!! Check out our view of the 4000 teenagers gathered at The Sydney Entertainment Centre.
RICE is an incredible event and movement that has grown exponentially since its inception in 2002. One of the keys to the growth has been the involvement of so many leaders at the grass roots level. Praise God for the way he continues to work through this movement.
Mark Driscoll is in town this week. Media Reports: smh; sydney anglicans 1; and sydney anglicans 2. There are just 2 tickets left to Sick of Religion and about 50 left to Lovin’ the Coast. Register online. I’m looking forward to hearing Mark speak a number of times over the week. Three things I value about Mark Driscoll’s preaching: 1) He’s not boring 2) He boldly speaks the truth and 3) He speaks about Jesus… a lot!

Lollies. As I said last week, I’m struggling to find good photos in my collection… maybe it’s time for a holiday! Warm Fuzzy for the function where these lollies were snapped.
Michael Guglielmucci was a Pastor from Planetshakers Church in Melbourne. He is known for his stuggle with cancer over the last two years. Earlier this year he released a song, Healer, about his struggle on the latest Hillsong live album. The thing is, he never had cancer. He has admitted to faking his cancer, deceiving 1000s of people including his own family. I find it difficult to imagine how he pulled it off. He may not have cancer – but I’m certain he needs help.
I read it first on Carlos Whittaker’s blog this morning. Adelaide Now and The Australian ran the news this morning. Mark Sayers’ post this afternoon quotes the letter the church leaders sent out to the church with the news. The following is a quote from Sayers I can’t help but agree with:
“My first car was an orange Datsun 1200. It got me from A to B, but it really was a rust bucket. It only cost me a thousand bucks, so I didn’t treat it too well and had no problem lending it out to any of my friends. I figured that if they crashed it, it was no big deal. Suppose though, I owned a Porsche 968. I can assure you, I’d care for it with my life and certainly wouldn’t lend it out. In my mind, such a valuable machine deserves the utmost care. But what’s this got to do with sex and relationships?
They are effectively using different media including: chalking; posters; t-shirts; video; web; and word of mouth, to talk about Jesus on campus. Pray for it. If you’re in the area, go to it + take your friends. Check out the vids below:
Walking past a trendy urban store in Chatswood today, I noticed something of a graffiti revolution in the form of CUPROCKING. Heard of it? Here’s a definition:“Cuprocking is the brain child of Sydney based artist Andy Uprock. By mapping out large areas of cyclone fencing and sticking plastic cups into the existing diamond shaped holes, Andy transforms streets and public areas into floating walk-by galleries. Andy typically uses around 2,500 individual cups for each piece and recycles them between each project.”
I was immediately grabbed by the colour and simplicity of the sample in the shop. I like it. This form of art could easily be used in creating a (relatively) cheap set/stage design or adding some colour to a youth room at your church. Check out Andy’s gallery and have a go at (virtual) cup rocking.
