Robert Baden-Powell is a Ninja

I’ve been reading lots of the history behind the Scouts movement. My conclusion? Robert Baden-Powell (the founder) was pretty much a ninja that trained other ninjas. Scouting. Stalking. Stealthiness. Always being prepared. That sounds like a ninja to me! To any Scouts reading this: if anyone ever tries to hassle you for being a Scout – tell them you’re training to be a ninja and that they should watch their back.

Scouts have a (Ninja) LAW they are to abide by and a (Ninja) PROMISE they are to keep. Part of the Promise is about doing “my duty to God”. And so my question is:

“What happens if you can’t fulfil your duty to God?”

Is it really that bad?? Does it mean you can’t be a Scout anymore?? Is it even possible to fulfil your duty to God??

A Little Bit of Soul @ The Australian Scouts Jamboree

I’ve been keenly following the live feeds, tweets, flickr pics and youtube vids from the 22nd Australian Scouts Jamboree. It looks like they’re having a killer time. There are over 13,000 scouts & their leaders camped out for 2 weeks down at Cataract Scout Park (south of Sydney). They’ve already had the likes of Hamish and Andy, Bluejuice, Urthboy, Children Collide, Indigo RisingToday Show reporter Steven Jacobs and NSW Governor Marie Bashir rocking out to the truckloads of Scouts. This Sunday night YouthSurge are hosting “A Little Bit of Soul”, featuring Garage Hymnal and Dave Miers (that’s me).

It’s a pretty crazy opportunity to talk about Jesus to a bunch of young crew who may not know much about him. Sweeeet. If you’re a regular reader of DMDC… I’d love you to pray for this event.

IF YOU’RE A SCOUT IN ONE OF THE MANY INTERNET CAFES ON SITE AND HAVE STUMBLED HERE VIA GOOGLE… MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR BUTT ALONG TO THE MINI-ARENA THIS SUNDAY NIGHT!!!! Every other night, there is something on in the main-arena, but not Sunday night – let’s fill that place!!! Garage Hymnal are an awesome awesome band (one of my favourites), we have an awesome game planned (the more the merrier!), and we’re going to be talking about some awesome stuff (including how the founder of the scouts is kinda like an old skool NINJA!!). Cya there!

Clean Water For An Entire Community – Only $376 To Go!

DMDC is partnering with Compassion Australia to raise money to provide clean drinking water for an entire community. Here is the original post with the plan of attack. We have now raised $1165. The target is $1541. That means only $376 to go! I’m thankful to God for the generosity of DMDC readers as well as family & friends on Facebook and Twitter.

I think it’s really cool to be able to leverage social media and blogging for good.

Let me introduce you to Miley’s dad, Billy Ray

1992 was a big year for Billy Ray Cyrus. Miley Cyrus, his (now more famous) daughter, was born. But more importantly, he released one of the greatest songs of the 1990s: Achy Breaky Heart. I was shocked today to talk to some younger folk who hadn’t heard of Billy Ray, and only vaguely knew of Achy Breaky Heart. The following film clip is essential viewing for a full understanding of (Country &) Western Society and Culture:

You’ll struggle to name a better song from 1992, or even the whole of the 1990s! Boyz II Men with their 1992 classic, End of the Road, are the only ones who can boast of a better song. Look. If you really want an education, you must watch the video below too:

January 2010 Desktop Wallpaper: X Marks The Spot

For the past couple of years I’ve downloaded a free desktop calendar each month from Smashing Magazine. This year, I’m going to try and design one each month. If I do it on time, and it’s up-to-scratch, I may even submit some for the monthly gallery. We’ll see. Here’s my first attempt. It’s called: X Marks The Spot. No profound story behind the name. It’s originally a photo taken at Town Hall Station in Sydney, just above the ticket gates. Let me know what you think. I think it might be too red??
