Sam Had A Very Shiny Nose

It’s been a couple of months since I gave Sam some love on the blog. Sam, one day you will google your name and find this picture. I’m sorry… it was your mum’s idea!!

Merry Christmas from Team Miers. We hope you have a great day rejoicing in Jesus our Saviour-God. Here’s some gear to look forward to after Christmas on DMDC:

  • More reflections from Vanuatu
  • Best and Worst of 2009
  • Brilliant guest posts from Row on the Twilight books

Would love your help in raising cash to provide a whole community with clean drinking water.

Breaking News: Zoolander 2 Pre-release

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson weren’t required for the follow up to the 2001 classic comedy, Zoolander. Instead they chose to cast Drew, Mal and me in the sequel. The setting? The streets of Sydney. Here are some candid shots taken during filming:

Okay. Maybe not a Zoolander sequel. But Drew and Mal are really, really ridiculously good looking! It’s been a while since the 3 of us have hung out, so it was good to get the band back together. We had a killer night eating, drinking, walking, posing, laughing, praying, driving, encouraging, climbing, rapping, joking and reminiscing.

DMDC is raising $1541 to provide clean water for children

I’ve recently been challenged in 2 ways: 1) At EV Church, we have just completed a series on James. In James, real faith is shown in action. 2) At Willoughby Church, over Christmas, we are raising money to buy water wells in Cambodia for $1500.

can you help?

I figured that $1500 isn’t that much! Over the last couple of years, the readership of davemiers.com has steadily increased such that, with your help it is an achievable target. Let’s do it! I’m looking for 49 people to help… (DONATE NOW)

  • 1 person @ $200
  • 3 people @ $100 each
  • 10 people @ $50 each
  • 15 people @ $25 each
  • 20 people @ $10 each

Are you one of those 49 people? DONATE NOW!

This fund-raising is done in partnership with Compassion Australia.

For many children, there’s water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink! There are many diseases affecting children that could be easily prevented by providing them with access to clean water. This gift can help give the gift of life to hundreds of children by providing clean water through purification systems, rain water tanks and other water harvesting systems.

DONATE NOW. Is it too ambitious to do it by Christmas??? Help spread the word…

Props to Moore College

As I type, Row is in the room next door in her final class for her Diploma of Biblical Studies. I reported this back in May – but she ended up doing an extra two subjects. This time she’s really finished. Props to Row for finishing! Proud husband.

Props also to Moore College. I think this course is brilliant. While there would be value lost from the intensity of community and relationships, I’d argue that the Diploma of Biblical Studies is more beneficial pedagogically than the full-time one year option. If every Christian could take a year out to study full-time at Moore that would be the bomb! But not every Christian can manage that. Most could manage one evening a week over 7 weeks per subject. Thinking of theological study? Get your feet wet in this course!! Correspondence courses are also available for those outside Sydney.

Go check out the post from May – it has a cool letter Row wrote at the time.

Check out the new pimped out Moore College website for more info.

Goodbye November 09 | Hello December 09

The name of this monthly blog post is lame. I’m sorry. Stay tuned for a phenomenal relaunch next month. Warm fuzzy if you can help the creative process (ie – hit me up with suggestions). December is here. We know what that means. All of the cicadas are currently at my window singing an ode to Summer. Bring it. I’m resolved to toughen up my soft feet this Summer. I know you’re interested, so I’ll keep you posted.

November 2009 blog stats

I’ve been out of the country (and off the blog) for 1/3 of November, but still a bit of blog growth. Thanks for reading.

We’ve got a new niece!! Very exciting. Here’s the breaking tweet. Here’s another pic:

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Moore College Exam Cram 09

It’s exam time. Last year I wrote a stack of posts as part of my prep. This year, I’m not sure if you’ll see any blog posts (other than this one) or not! However, yesterday I tried a little experiment on twitter. Here’s where it started: Yo #MTC Moore college peeps. Tweet what ur studying 2day & how ur encouraged by it. Use this hashtag thing: #MTCexamcram09 (from here). Check out the live feed below:

Here’s what I like about the experiment:

  1. I’m motivated to study because I see others studying
  2. There are gems among the quotes, reflections and bible verses being shared
  3. It’s a fun and maybe (?) useful way to use social media

Go join in if you’re using twitter and/or follow the live feed above – or here on twitter
