The Jesus Revolution MP3s – MBM Youth Rooty Hill

I recently joined the young punks from MBM Youth in Rooty Hill for The Launch camp. What a great camp! I really enjoyed hanging out with the gangsters from this fantastic youth group. Matt Sparks and his team of leaders are doing a brilliant job as they seek to ‘transform youth through Jesus to the glory of God’.

Here are the MP3s. The aim of this series from Luke’s Gospel was that young punks would be ‘radically changed by the good news of Jesus’. Praise God – there were a few on camp who either became Christian or recommitted their lives to following Jesus.

Riverina Youth Convention – Talk MP3s

I’ve spent the last few days near Wagga Wagga at the Riverina Youth Convention. I really liked the country-fresh cow manure smell. I really loved the 80 or so young people from across the Riverina. The program was full on with 4 talks, 2 workshops and 1 q&a in just over 24 hours. Yet, these young people loved being challenged from God’s word.

God in his kindness brought a number of people from death to life!! And a few more recommitted their lives to following Jesus. Richard Wilson (AFES Wagga Wagga) and a fantastic bunch of youth leaders from across the Riverina did a great job at organising the event. Below are the MP3s from my 4 Living the Revolution talks:

If you were there, feel free to leave comments on how you were challenged and/or encouraged from God’s word over the weekend…

3 Sermons on Titus – Waiting For Jesus (MP3s)

I had a great weekend with Roseville Anglican 18+ crew. Lots of encouraging conversations and good times. We looked at Titus (read it here). My summary of the book: knowing the truth of the gospel, leads to godly living, while we wait for Jesus. I spend most of my time speaking to teenagers, so I always enjoy getting to speak to a slightly older congregation!  Here are 3 blog posts from my prep: one; two; three.

15 hour, 4-Part Sermon Prep Outline – Justin Buzzard

Justin Buzzard has just posted a really useful booklet outlining his sermon prep process. John Chapman, Australian evangelist, has a really simple method for sermon prep. Justin’s process is very similar to Chappo’s. That’s a good thing! If you’re new(ish) to preaching, or always looking to learn from others, DOWNLOAD the booklet now. You might also be interested in seeing the preaching notes of some well known preachers.

Here’s a snippet about Justin’s process:

This process is what works well for me. I’ve found that I work best approaching sermon prep in 4 “Parts” which I refer to as Till, Seed, Germinate, Reap (the gardening metaphor helps me approach sermon prep as a creation process where God is the primary Creator/Preacher).  I’ve also found that, for me, 15 hours is a sufficient and sustainable amount of time for weekly message prep.

Don’t call me baby – part 4

Dear blog reader. My guess is that some of you probably have a cute and cuddly Christmas view of Jesus. Yes, Jesus was once a cuddly little baby. But he’s much more!

don't call me baby

Jesus is the SAVIOUR of the World; he came to save people like you. Jesus is GOD WITH US; our need for a Saviour was so great that only God could come and be that Saviour.

Stop thinking of Jesus as a baby! My hope for you this Christmas is that you’d see the real Jesus. A good place to start would be to read one of Jesus’ biographies. Start here.

I have hidden your word in my heart – Sermon & Resources

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” Psalm 119:11. “Resolved, To study the Scriptures so steadily, constantly, and frequently, as that I may find, and plainly perceive, myself to grow in the knowledge of the same” Jonathan Edwards Resolution #28. Tonight I preached on Psalm 119 and following through with resolutions to read the Bible. I was challenged to delight in God and his word.

Hiding God's Word in Your Heart

Here’s an MP3 recording of the sermon (I forgot my sound recorder and used the iTalk app on my phone – turned out okay). I suggested 3 practical ways to hide the word in your heart. Here are some tools for reading, remembering and praying…

Don’t Waste Your Life – MP3s from Vanuatu

In Vanuatu, my main responsibility was to lead the group Bible study each day. It was such an encouraging time! The Schoolies were a solid bunch of Christians and so they loved spending time in the Word as a large group, in smaller groups and in quiet times. The series we did was called “Don’t Waste Your Life”. The aim was to think through how to spend the rest of our lives by investing in things that matter. While some material was borrowed from John Piper’s great book by the same name, it was more or less a study of Ephesians and what it says about God’s purposes for his people.

only one life it'll soon be past, only what's done in Christ will last

Ultimately the series is all about Jesus. God is at work in the world to bring all things under the rule of Jesus (Eph 1:9-10). A life on purpose is a life lived trusting in and living for Jesus. I was personally encouraged to “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David, this is my gospel…” (2 Timothy 2:8) Here are the MP3s:

      1. You’ve got ONE SHOT – Ecclesiastes
      2. GLORIFY Jesus – Ephesians 1 & 3
      3. GATHER with Jesus – Ephesians 2-3
      4. GROW in Jesus – Ephesians 4-5
      5. GIVE like Jesus – Ephesians 4
      6. GOSPEL of Jesus – Ephesians 6
      7. GLAD in Jesus – Ephesians 5
      8. Remember JESUS – 2 Corinthians 4; Hebrews 12 & 2 Timothy 2:8 (includes Communion)

Here’s a training session I did too: Encouragise, Empathise, Evangelise

Were you on Schoolies? Let us know how you were encouraged and challenged. Got any questions? Leave them in the comments or contact me.

This is the 3rd time I’ve done this series. Here’s one and two. I think it improved!
